People of faith should be responsive to the biblical call for care for the elderly - reflected in scriptures such as these: "Show respect for the elderly" (Leviticus 19:32), and "Do not cast me away when I am old; do not forsake me when my strength is gone" (Psalm 71:9).

West End wants to be responsive to our shut-in’s, both home and nursing home bound. With your help, we can reassure our homebound that they have NOT been forgotten. We want them to know that West End loves them and cares for them.

We all will face aging one day. When we do, we will not want to be forgotten. Let us not forget them now. Relieve isolation and loneliness, which can produce emotional pain as well as mental and physical deterioration. The silent ache of being alone is real. Visit even for a little while with someone who is lonely. Listening is the best remedy for loneliness. Lend an ear. Friendly visitors provide an important link to the outside world for homebound persons. Simple yet sincere gestures for visitors include playing board games, baking cookies, bird watching, looking through photo albums, listening to music, taking your pets to visit or just listening to or telling great stories. Offer an arm and a hug. Offer a prayer.

Many of our homebound have little contact with the outside world, as a friendly visitor you can help them feel more connected to the community. Open that door to the outside world!

Getting Involved

Are you looking for an opportunity to get involved in a mission that changes lives? The Homebound Ministry may be just the place for you. This ministry can be one of the most deeply rewarding experiences of YOUR life. Let’s make sure West End’s homebound are treated with all the dignity and respect they deserve. Our elderly homebound have given so much to society and still have so much to give. What we gain from their spirit and wisdom is priceless.

"Is wisdom not found among the aged? Does not long life bring understanding?" Job 12:12

"I have shown you all things, how that your laboring ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of our Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive." Acts 20:35

Will You Give?

"I have one life and one chance to make it count for something . . . I'm free to choose what that something is, and the something I've chosen is my faith. Now, my faith goes beyond theology and religion and requires considerable work and effort. My faith demands -- this is not optional -- my faith demands that I do whatever I can, wherever I am, whenever I can, for as long as I can with whatever I have to try to make a difference." – Jimmy Carter
