West End Baptist Church

The new facility was completed and dedicated in February under the leadership of Broadus Moody. At last preparation came for making the move, the transition from the facility on Hagin Street to the new church. Many people were involved in making that transition.

The decade of the 90’s has seen God do some wonderful and exciting things in the life of West End. On August 1, 1993 God blessed West End and enabled a church family to purchase the adjacent youth house and nine additional acres and to give it to the church in the form of a trust. After taking possession of the new building West End then had to set its strategies for reaching the community for Christ. One of the initial stages was to bring in Bro. Larry Gregory as full-time Minister of Education.

Two years later in June, 1995, Pastor Mike Lowery accepted the call to lead West End in setting goals and making plans to accomplish God’s work. Over the next three years there were 700 additions to the church fellowship and the ministry has greatly expanded. The additional growth resulted in the creation of a full time Minister of Music position. Joel Talley came to serve in this capacity two years ago. Michele Talley, Joel’s wife, has been the director of our Youth Ministry for the last seven years and has done a wonderful job leading the youth. West End church continues to be a caring, loving, fellowshipping church. Its ministries reach all age groups within the church and extend out into the community with ministries in the local prison as well as the nursing homes.

As a result of the tremendous growth, groundbreaking for the new 40,000 sq. ft. facility occurred September 7, 1997. An architect was hired in early 1996 to begin drawing plans for a new worship center. The beautiful new worship facility will accommodate 1600 people and will enable the church to continue to grow for years to come. God blessed by allowing over 1000 people to participate in the groundbreaking ceremonies. Completion of the new facility is scheduled for March of 1999. God has truly blessed West End both yesterday, today and will continue to bless in the days to come, if its people will keep their eyes upon the Lord. May we all strive to continue to be a congregation willing to have faith to accomplish great and mighty things for the Lord. The members of West End Baptist Church express their humblest gratitude of thanks to God Almighty for 90 years of his gracious provision. May West End Baptist Church truly bring light to the world from this corner until Christ returns.

To date under the leadership of Pastor Mike Lowery the Sunday School membership now exceeds 2,200 and West End compliments a full ministerial staff and many diversified ministries. West End established a television ministry in 1999 and it’s worship services are aired three times per week in a three county area with thousands of viewers weekly. God has blessed West End by allowing the church to be a pace setting ministry in York County. The place on the hill has adopted the name "Exciting West End Baptist Church"
