West End's "First Serves" allow you to do a ministry "test drive" that requires no experience, no training, and no long-term commitment. If you like an area of service after trying it out, then let us know and we’ll provide you with further opportunities to develop and use your unique design for God's purposes. Here are some "First Serves" in our Adult Division; if there are other ways you want to "kick the tires" before you make a final decision where to invest yourself in volunteering this year, give John Horn a call at 803-327-2811. Our Adult Volunteer Opportunities: Celebrate Recovery, Christian Issues Team, Disaster Relief Ministry, DivorceCare, Evening Small Groups and Iron Men FellowshipMedia Through the media – Cable TV and the Internet, West End Baptist Church is able to minister to people all around the world. Numerous volunteers are needed each week to help record and produce these services. If your gifts and talents lie in technical and/or skilled areas, we invite to you to join our Media Team. Listed below are several of the areas that require weekly staffing and you may have what we're looking for. Interested individuals can call Jim Browder in the church office (803) 327-2811. Our Media Volunteer Opportunities: Camera Operator, Sound and Lighting, Electrical Technician and Power Point Operator Celebrate Recovery This Christ-centered recovery ministry meets weekly (beginning in February) at The Connection to help people move beyond their hurts, hang-ups, and habits to experience the healing and liberty that Jesus offers. Since it is designed to serve people who may not be comfortable coming to a traditional church setting, it is important that we make them feel welcome and safe when they arrive. Your "First Serve" could include being a Greeter or providing refreshments at one of our weekly meetings. Volunteer! Christian Issues Team Disaster Relief MinistryOur church has partnered with Ingalls Avenue Baptist Church in Pascagoula, Mississippi, to rebuild its facilities and community that were seriously damaged by Hurricane Katrina in August of 2005. Now we're sending teams of volunteers twice a year to work for a week to finish repairing a few houses. Your "First Serve" could include donating your time and money to travel with us on our next trip to MS. Volunteer! DivorceCareWe offer a weekly support group and video seminar for people who are separated or divorced, in an environment with caring facilitators who have experienced Christ's power to heal their hurts from these experiences. Since we serve individuals who may not be comfortable coming to a traditional church setting, it is important that we make them feel welcome and safe when they arrive. Your "First Serve" could include being a Greeter or providing refreshments at one of our weekly meetings. Volunteer! Evening Small Groups"Communities" of six to twelve West Enders meet at various times and locations in our area to deepen their relationships with God and others through fellowship, discipleship, ministry, evangelism and worship. During the discipleship time, a group leader and apprentice facilitate the discussion. Your "First Serve" could be to meet with a group leader to learn how to ask the discussion questions as the apprentice in an upcoming group session. Volunteer! Iron Men FellowshipTwice monthly breakfasts with other guys provide opportunities for studying Christian principles, fellowship and prayer. Group...? Volunteer! Camera Operator Help bring our services to those who can't be with us on Sunday morning. Your services are needed on Sunday mornings each week on either our main campus or at the Connection. Service times include Sunday mornings, Sunday evenings and Wednesday evenings. Other times may be necessary depending upon programming. Volunteer!
